Nancy Marie Payne, Storyteller - July 11th

This month, the Capital District Humanist Society invites you to a free, open to the public presentation by Nancy Marie Payne, teacher and professional storyteller.

"How I Came to Dowaigiac" is the story of the first Orphan Train out of New York City in 1853, told through the eyes of Elsie – orphan, turned street rat, turned train rider. The Orphan Trains in the 1800s occurred in a time of increased immigration, overpopulation in the cities, and abandoned children. Before relating Elsie’s story, Nancy will describe the background of her research and the conditions in NY City in the days of the Orphan Trains.

Sunday, July 11th, 2010.
